A playful WooCommerce store for a Slovenian gift brand
A custom WooCommerce store rebuild for Pentlca, a Slovenian gift shop offering unique, humorous, and personalized gifts. The project included custom product pages, category layouts, optimized checkout setup, homepage sections, email marketing support, payment and shipping setup, and optional product personalization functionality.
Rebuilding a playful eCommerce experience for Pentlca
Pentlca came to us with an existing store that was no longer functioning properly and needed to be rebuilt on a new instance. The goal was not only to bring the store back online, but to create a more stable, professional, and easier-to-manage WooCommerce foundation for long-term growth.
The design was already prepared, so our role was focused on implementation, WooCommerce development, technical setup, and turning the visual direction into a working online store. The final website needed to feel playful and warm, while still being clear, reliable, and simple enough for customers to move from product discovery to checkout without friction.
For a gift shop like Pentlca, product presentation is especially important. Customers are often looking for something fun, personal, memorable, or suitable for a specific occasion. The store needed to communicate that personality while keeping the buying experience simple. This required more than a standard WooCommerce setup. Product pages, category pages, homepage sections, and content areas all needed to support the brand’s gift-focused experience.
A key part of the project was creating a flexible product personalization option. Buyers can choose optional personalization where relevant, add their own input based on their wishes, and, when needed, apply an additional charge for that customization. This gives Pentlca more flexibility in how products are sold and allows customers to create more personal gifts directly through the product page.
The result is a stronger WooCommerce store that supports Pentlca’s playful brand, improves the shopping journey, gives the team easier content management, and creates a scalable foundation for adding new products, categories, content, and future improvements.
The challenge
Pentlca already had an online store, but it was not in a reliable working state. Rather than trying to patch an unstable setup, the project was rebuilt on a new instance to create a cleaner and more dependable foundation.
The main challenge was turning an existing design into a functioning WooCommerce store that could support real business operations. The store needed custom product presentation, category archive layouts, checkout setup, content sections, email marketing support, payment and shipping configuration, and a backend structure that would be manageable for the client.
Because the brand sells unique and humorous gifts, the website needed to feel different from a generic online store. It had to be friendly, warm, playful, and easy to browse. Customers needed to quickly understand the products, explore categories, and complete their purchase without confusion.
Another important requirement was personalization. Some products needed an optional customization field where buyers could describe what they wanted. This also needed to support an optional extra charge, giving the store more flexibility without requiring manual workarounds.
Project goals
The main goal was to rebuild Pentlca into a reliable WooCommerce store that supports both the brand experience and the daily work of managing an online shop.
The store needed to feel professional, but not cold. Pentlca’s brand is playful and gift-oriented, so the website had to support that personality through the way products are presented, how sections are structured, and how customers move through the store.
Another goal was to make product management easier. With WordPress, WooCommerce, and custom fields, the website needed to give the team a practical way to manage homepage content, product information, category content, blog posts, and other key areas without unnecessary complexity.
The project also had to support long-term growth. Pentlca needed a store that could handle new products, new categories, content marketing, email marketing, and ongoing improvements over time. A stable WooCommerce foundation was essential.
Finally, the store needed the technical basics required for a real eCommerce business: payment setup, shipping setup, optimized checkout, newsletter integration, basic SEO configuration, and ongoing maintenance support.
The solution
We rebuilt the Pentlca store on a new instance and implemented the prepared design into a functional WordPress and WooCommerce environment. The focus was on creating a reliable eCommerce experience that looks playful on the frontend and remains manageable on the backend.
Custom product pages were developed to better support Pentlca’s products and buying experience. Instead of relying only on default WooCommerce layouts, the product pages were adapted to present gift products in a clearer and more engaging way.
We also created custom category and archive pages to improve browsing. For a gift shop, category discovery is important because customers may not always know exactly what they want. They may browse by occasion, gift type, recipient, or product style. A stronger category structure helps users explore the catalog more naturally.
The homepage was built with custom sections so the brand can highlight products, categories, campaigns, and content in a more flexible way. Combined with WordPress content management and Advanced Custom Fields, this gives the team more control without making the backend difficult to use.
A major custom feature was the optional personalization setting for products. When enabled, buyers can add personalization details directly on the product page. The feature can also include an optional extra charge, allowing Pentlca to offer customized products without complicating the checkout process.
We also handled key eCommerce setup tasks, including payment and shipping configuration, newsletter and email marketing support, basic SEO setup, and ongoing technical maintenance after launch.
